The Journal of Exceptional Experiences and Psychology (JEEP) is an online, international journal dedicated to the exploration and advancement of exceptional psychology, which is a field that studies subjectively anomalous experiences (aka, exceptional experiences). Many exceptional experiences can be considered very meaningful to the person who experiences them, and so, spiritual, religious, paranormal, transformative, or transpersonal experiences may be included amongst exceptional experiences. What is key to something being an exceptional experience, however, is that to the person, his or her experience is anomalous, perhaps rather perplexing and not typical.

Some examples of experiences under investigation by exceptional psychology include survival after death, out-of-body experiences, extrasensory perception, psychokinesis, poltergeists, mediumship, and hauntings. Also included are cryptids, abduction scenarios, possession, psychic healing, and synchronicity.

Exceptional psychology approaches these phenomena from a neutral and bracketed stance. Simply put, exceptional psychology uses an integrative and phenomenological approach. This includes embracing the varieties of inquiry such as experimentation, ethnography, phenomenology, personal narratives, art, and poetry. Each seeks to reveal, in its own way, the essence of the exceptional experience.

What’s more, exceptional psychology encourages the application of helpful aspects of certain exceptional experiences to clinical praxis. This is just as much a part of the project as research and theorizing. For instance, clinical approaches include the use of psychic healing practices and the application of mediumship to the bereavement process.

The Journal of Exceptional Experiences and Psychology encourages the submission of manuscripts, creative writing, artwork, music, video, book reviews and letters to the editor related to exceptional experiences. The journal is peer-refereed; submissions will be double-blindly reviewed and a recommendation for acceptance, revisions, or denial will be made to the editor. JEEP is published biannually and welcomes submissions all year.
